After a quiet time for almost two years, rapper-composer Yo Yo Honey Singh came up with 'Dheere dheere' last year, leaving fans thrilled. The musician is now gearing up to release another single. As per a report, the song will revolve around bipolar disorder, a mental condition he suffered from for over a year. A source close to him told a publication that the song, called 'Rise and shine', will throw light on how Yo Yo dealt with his struggles and came out of the phase. The source also added that it was his mother who inspired him to write during his rough patch.

This man is way too cool even for the old school. When musicians in India barely manage to nail a song in Hindi (unless you want a crowd dancing to an upbeat party song shaming Munni and Sheila), this guy took his PhD in Sanskrit to the next level and it's bahu sundram asti.

Pankaj Jha who is pursuing PhD in Sanskrit grammar at Shri Lal Bahadur Shastri Rashtriya Sanskrit Vidyapeeth, New Delhi, sung the famous Hrithik Roshan and Sonam Kapoor starrer track Dheere Dheere Se and gave a new meaning to the beat.

The song has a legacy of its own. It was originally sung by Kumar Sanu in the 1990 release - Aashiqui, and stirred a heart or many.

Without any need of a revamp, Honey Singh in 2015 covered the song in his own Yo Yo way.

And in no time it was 2016 when this happened. Pankaj Jha covered the song in not only a different style but in a different language altogether. Yes guys, in our very own Sanskrit.

But how did Jha actually get the idea? Here's the story.

"A student wanted to know if Sanskrit dealt only with old stories and shlokas. I told him there were songs as well," Jha told Hindustan Times.

The kid challenged Jha to sing a famous song in Sanskrit and the man from Jharkhand readily accepted the challenge. And now, it's going viral for all the legit reasons one could ask for.

Yo Yo Honey Singh, Badshah''s songs on Armaan Malik''s mind

Singer Armaan Malik, who has created waves by recreating 1990’s melodies like Tujhe Apna Banane Ki and peppy numbers like Buddhu Sa Mann, says that rap and electronic dance music (EDM) is a new and fresh approach to dance numbers.

Asked if he thinks rap and EDM are taking over Bollywood melodies, Malik said: “I don’t think so...I would call it a fresh approach to dance songs…”

Malik, who has crooned foot-tapping numbers like Rom rom romantic and Chaar shanivaar, says he likes songs by rappers like Yo Yo Honey Singh and Badshah as their songs are catchy and connect with the youth. 

“I like Honey singh. I love the music that he does. I like Badshah’s songs as they are very cool, catchy and very young. I think that’s very important...It’s connecting with the youth, he added. 

The 20-year-old singer shared that since he is a part of the youth he finds these genres a “good change”.

“But it’s more like a phase, that’s what I consider it,” he added.

Yo Yo Honey Singh joins hands with SRK for Raees?

A year after their ugly spat on the ‘SLAM’ world tour, Shah Rukh Khan and singer Yo Yo Honey Singh never worked with each other. New Delhi: There was a time when songs of rapper Yo Yo Honey Singh were chartbusters. After achieving mountainous heights in terms of success, Yo Yo somewhat vanished from the singing arena. And now we might finally know the reason for his absence.

Fresh reports in the media suggest that Yo Yo was battling bipolar disorder for 18 months. In an interview to a newspaper he also thanked doctors who helped him fight this disease.

Bipolar disorder is associated with mood swings. A person suffering from it will be depressed at one point of time, and go to manic highs soon.

The report also said that Yo Yo calls this phase of his life a scary one, and he owes it to the doctors for helping him. The doctors constantly monitored him and kept a tab in his mood swings. During this phase, Yo Yo found it difficult to interact with people beyond his family and close friends.  In fact, he became an alcoholic too.

It was the doctors who came as angels in disguise to Yo Yo’s life. They nurtured his thought process, reportedly, and helped him become strong enough to defeat the disorder.

The other thing which provided recluse to Yo Yo was writing. He reportedly penned down his thoughts and plans to develop them soon.

Asked how he gained courage to speak about his problems to the world, Singh said at the red carpet of an awards ceremony here: “As an artiste, I believe that I am not my own property. I am the property of my fans. So I thought that they deserve to know about what exactly happened to me.”

Many speculated that the “Gabru” rapper was at a rehabilitation centre. However, Singh broke his silence and dismissed all rumours and opened up about his bipolar disorder and his battle with alcoholism earlier this month.

While Singh was absent from the scene, other rappers gained prominence in Bollywood.

Asked if once he’s back, other rappers will take a backseat, Singh said: “I don’t know what is going to happen.”

Earlier this month, it was reported that the “Blue eyes” crooner had reportedly once compared rapper Badshah to a Nano car, to which rapper Raftaar labeled Singh as a “insecure little girl”.

When asked about his view on what he’d like to say to Raftaar’s comment, Singh shrugged it off, saying: “I dont know, who is that.”

The “Dheere dheere” crooner was here to attend the second edition of Times Of India Film Awards (TOIFA). He also performed his hit numbers at the event gala, which celebrated Hindi cinema and felicitated talent.

Film debut: I am still the same, says singer Yo Yo Honey Singh

While the industry is rife with speculations that Shahid Kapur’s high-on-life singing sensation Tommy Singh in Udta Punjab is ‘inspired’ from Yo Yo Honey Singh’s life, the musician-rapper smiles and says, “I don’t know about that, but I wish Diljit Dosanjh the best for the film.” In town for a concert and a quick promotion of his debut film as an action hero in Zorawar, that releases on May 6, Singh was as usual surrounded by an entourage of a fiercely protective team, keeping prying eyes and piercing questions at bay. It was one of his first interviews with the city’s media post the 18-month self-imposed sabbatical, and one was expecting Singh to walk in a changed man, especially after he came out to the world with the diagnosis of being bi-polar. But when Singh’s polished manager continued with a polite persistence of “please, let’s just stick to the film and leave the rest of the questions for another time,” we realised nothing’s really changed. Except that Singh was a couple of kilos heavier and a little reserved, letting his managers take control.

“I was never out of the game, I was working, writing and composing songs. In fact, Dheere Dheere, which just won an award, was composed during my break,” says Singh.

Okay, so, what about the film? “It’s the story of a fauji, and not just any fauji, but a special ops person who has gone undercover. It’s a new kind of character for Punjabi cinema, and is a very serious and dramatic film with lots of action,” says Singh adding how they’ve kept the Punjabi language simple and city-like in it to reach across to a wideraudience nationally and internationally.

Being pitched as one of the most expensive films in Punjabi cinema, Zorawar has been shot in South Africa, London and Punjab and stars Parul Gulati, Gurbani Judge, Pawan Malhotra, Mukul Dev and Achint Kaur. Produced by PTC Motion Pictures, Rajiee M Shinde and Rabindra Narayan, it has been directed by Vinnil Markan, and also has Singh as music composer and singer for it.

“I have three songs – a gangster number, love song and my favourite, Superman,” says the singer-rapper who claims to have done all stunts on his own without a body double.

Acting, he says, was tough and he’d think twice before signing any new film. In the meantime, it is music for him and he is looking forward to releasing a new track called ‘Rise and Shine’ that talks a lot of ‘zinda-dilli’.

“Well, that is one of the things I learnt in my two years, to be optimistic in spite of whatever happens,” he finally comes through, but is quick to add that nothing really changed in the almost two years he was missing in action. That the illness or its challenges made his perspective change towards life or his music and lyrics is negative. “I am still the same,” he asserts.

Ashok Masti: I have been praying for Yo Yo Honey Singh’s comeback

Punjabi singer Ashok Masti is riding high on the success of his new song, 'Nakhra nawabi,' which has crossed the 1.5 million mark on YouTube. It is the singer's first ever collaboration with rapper Badshah, who also appears in the video of the song. Ashok was recently in TOI's Noida office for an interaction with us.

We asked the singer if he thought that Badshah has replaced Yo Yo Honey Singh to be the new rap king and he said, "Nahi main ye nahi manta, everyone has their own style, Badshah has his own. Of course, he is in the limelight these days because of the success of his songs but that does not mean it is because of Honey Singh's absence from the music scene. And also, it doesn't mean that when Honey will return, people would stop listening to Badshah."

The jolly natured singer said that Yo Yo Honey Singh is feeling better now and will soon return to the music scene. "I have heard that Honey is feeling better and will soon be back. I have been praying for him. India is a big country and it can accommodate thousands of artists. Every artist gets their due depending on how much effort you put in. I wish both, Badshah and Honey, continue to do good music while staying away from vulgarity," he signed off with a tinge of smile on his face.

मुंबई। रैपर, म्यूजिक प्रोड्यूसर, सिंगर और फिल्म एक्टर यो यो हनी सिंह के फैन्स के लिए अच्छी खबर है। हाल ही में हनी सिंह को मुंबई के एक इवेंट में देखा गया। वह पिछले काफी समय से कहीं नजर नहीं आ रहे थे। इस बीच यह भी सुनने को मिला कि वह चंडीगढ़ के रिहैबिलिटेशन सेंटर में अपना इलाज करा रहे हैं।

लेकिन अब ऐसा लग रहा है कि हनी सिंह काम पर लौट आए हैं। वह इस इवेंट में ठीक-ठाक दिखाई दे रहे थे। इससे लगता है कि वह जल्द ही अपने फैन्स के लिए कोई बढि़या गाना लेकर आएंगे। 

वैसे बता दें कि इंडस्ट्री से 'गायब' होने से पहले वह रितिक रोशन और सोनम कपूर पर फिल्माए गए वीडियो सॉन्ग 'धीरे धीरे' में सुनाई दिए थे। सूत्रों की मानें तो हनी सिंह मार्च में अपना नया सॉन्ग लेकर आ सकते हैं।

मीडिया रिपोर्टों के मुताबिक, पंजाबी सिंगर जसबीर जस्सी ने बताया कि वह हनी सिंह एक रिहैबिलिटेशन सेंटर में मिले थे। खबर ये भी आईं कि हनी सिंह ड्रग एडिक्शन के कारण चंडीगढ़ के रिहैबिलिटेशन सेंटर में इलाज करा रहे हैं। जसबीर ने बताया था कि हनी सिंह बहुत बीमार है। जब मैं उससे रिहैब में मिला था तो मुझे बहुत दुख हुआ था। बिल्कुल अजीब सा हो गया था। हालांकि, उसके मैनेजर ने मुझे बताया था कि उसकी रिकवरी अच्छी हो रही है।
