Ahead of his first trip to India next month, Skrillex, the Grammy winning electro-dubstep sensation, talks about his music, collaborating with Justin Bieber and his side-swept hairstyle.

How excited are you about playing in India? 

So excited! My hands are extended fully. Can't wait to meet all my fans.

Are you aware of EDM's popularity in India? 

I am, actually. My socials go off so much in India and Bollywood is something I've been a fan of for a long time.Seeing guys like Yo Yo Honey Singh taking dubstep and making it Bollywood-influenced is really exciting.

Are there any Indian artistes that you'd like to collaborate with? 

I already shouted out, Honey Singh! But maybe I'll find some new artistes when I get to India and make a big hit.

What do you have in store for your Indian fans? 

I'm always a very spur-of-the-moment type of guy when it comes to what I want to play, so I'm sure I'm going to get influenced by my surroundings. That apart, I want to experience, eat, see and do as much as I can.

Yo Yo filled the void left by my music: Bohemia

Popular Punjabi rapper Bohemia is known for his meaningful lyrics and the 35-year-old feels that he left a big “void” in his music by ­focusing more on ­lyrics, rather than adapting to popular culture. His genre of music is one which people like listening to rather than shaking a leg on. The Paisey Da Nasha hitmaker credits Yo Yo Honey Singh for filling that void and feels that the latter is famous because “he did his own thing”. “His songs are more ­oriented for the ­popular culture. When you listen to his songs, you feel like ­dancing to them. There’s a lot of fun element to them. My niece listens to Paani Paani and ­immediately starts dancing,” says Bohemia, who visited Fever 104 FM studios recently. 

“Honey filled the void that I created with my music. People ­listen to my music for lyrics. They try to find meaning in it. Honey’s songs don’t focus much on lyrics. He came first and did his own thing, which was to ­create songs that were  more pop than rap. And I really have a lot of respect for that,” he adds.  The Karachi-born rapper also feels that unlike him, Yo Yo Honey Singh didn’t have a tough life. “I have faced a lot in my life. One of my cousins is on a ­murder trial. And there are many experiences like that. And that’s what my songs do. They are about my experiences. I try and tell people what these ­experiences mean to me,” he says, adding,  “But Yo Yo Honey Singh never had to face all that. So why should he write about that? I don’t think that you have to go through a lot in life to make music.”

Honey Singh, who is missing from the scene for almost a year, is now getting his bearings back. He has started composing music again.

While Yo Yo continues to rest and spend time with his family in New Delhi, he has been spending more and more time in the studios.

His recently released single, Dheere Dheere Se starring Hrithik Roshan and Sonam Kapoor, has put him back in circulation.

Though there has been a lot of buzz about the reason for the singer-composer’s absence, he prefers to keep mum for now.

Yo Yo Honey Singh’s Remake of ‘Dheere Dheere’ Goes Viral

Time for a throwback: the date is July 23, 1990 and Mahesh Bhatt’s romantic drama “Aashiqui” has just hit theaters across India. Rahul Roy and Anu Aggarwal play their namesakes in the movie, and “Aashiqui” is the story of the ups and down of their pyaar ki kahaani.

The movie was a phenomenal box-office success, almost entirely in part thanks to the soundtrack. After an almost unbearable 10 or so years without a single decent Bollywood soundtrack, listeners across the world were shocked by the melodious songs in the “Aashiqui” soundtrack.  Playback singers Anuradha Paudwal and Kumar Sanu, along with music directors Nadeem-Shravan and lyricist Sameer, all won Filmfare awards for their work.

Now, 25 years since the release of this mega hit soundtrack, rapper Yo Yo Honey Singh chose to pay tribute to Gulshan Kumar, the founder of the T-Series music label and one of the producers of “Aashiqui,” by recreating the classic “Dheere Dheere.”

Singh keeps the main refrain from the original song, but much of the rest is distinctly different and strongly influenced by his personal style. Since the music video’s release on YouTube on September 1, it has already gotten more than 20 million views.

This success is largely thanks to the glamorous cinematography in Turkey along with the impressive onscreen presence of both Sonam Kapoor and Hrithik Roshan. Some people love Singh’s version of “Dheere Dheere,” while others hate it—decide for yourself and watch this video ASAP if you have not seen it yet!

Hrithik Roshan and Sonam Kapoor in Dheere Dheere Se: Watch Aashiqui 2.0 in this Honey Singh song

Dheere Dheere Se, the much-awaited song by Yo Yo Honey Singh that stars Hrithik Roshan and Sonam Kapoor, has been released. The track was supposed to be out on September 1, but it has been made available on Hotstar on August 31.

The song has been picturised in Antalya, Turkey. It's not an usual Honey Singh song, it's a bit hatke. The song chosen is from the 1990 film Aashiqui, and is a tribute to late producer Gulshan Kumar. Watch the original song:

In Honey Singh's version of the song, Hrithik and Sonam recreate the aashiqui. The song revolves around the story of a boy who is trying to impress a girl. Hrithik's dance moves might attract the viewers to the song. The 42-year-old actor took to micro-blogging site Twitter to share the song.

 

Sonam Kapoor also took to Twitter to share their song. Sonam looks stunning in the video.
